Extended Diploma Year 1
In this area you will find a 'week by week' scheme for all of these sessions. These will appear in 6 week blocks throughout the year. This group is on a rota with another group which changes over after the 6 weeks and the same is taught to the other group.
The reason this method is used for the scheme is because it helps the students to see clearly what is happening each week. They are able to refer through this section and the archive to look at past, present and future lessons, in this way recapping of sessions becomes easier and it also helps students who were unable to attend a particular session.
The curriculum is designed to be 'learner responsive' and can react and adapt to change as it is fluid, transparent and visible to students and staff alike.
This can also be commented on by the students, thus allowing them a 'Student Voice' concerning the course and what is delivered. They can leave comments about this course on this tutor site at any time along with 'Parental Invitation' (see tab section on this site), which allows parents to see and engage with the students and the work that they are producing along with a direct link to the tutor at all times.
There will be lanyard checks on all students before each session to ensure safeguarding procedures are in place throughout the delivery of this curriculum.
There will be lanyard checks on all students before each session to ensure safeguarding procedures are in place throughout the delivery of this curriculum.

Development
The students will expand their use of the blogger website and also look in detail at the assignment paper in relation to the course requirements.
Also begin the research stop frame photography with examples evidenced onto their own blogs. This week will be based around consolidating what you learnt last week and adding more complex gadgets to each website, such as Recent Comments, etc..
Another part of the course will be to set up and link everyone together via 'Following', including all students linked to the Tutor website for continued support throughout the course.
Set up the websites so that they can access them via their smart phones, and encourage the students to blog openly with any thoughts and ideas out of college hours as extended learning.
The students have previously had a health and safety studio induction.
The class will be in the photography studio (depending on availability) with an 'overhead shoot' using the camera stand and suitable lighting. A suitable background will be used along with a range of objects that can be gathered to show what could happen, ie suitcase, boxing gloves, fabric, wallpaper, string, anything to hand with which to explain how stop frame photography can work under controlled lighting.
Maybe a fabric background could be used or perhaps a roll of colourama on which to work.
Consolidation
The students will upload all of their images to their computers that were taken in the photography studio, some of these images are added to their blogs to evidence what they have done. The whole group adds written work alongside this and reflects back on what they did in the photography studio along with annotations and images of the kit and equipment that was used. This kit is also explained on the Tutor Support Website.

Teaching and Learning Procedures / Activities
The students will be going out on location with digital SLR cameras and tripods to aid the production of stop frame photography as per individual research.
Development
Actual research proper will start today if not done in previous weeks, all research done of artists, photographers and film makers will need to be evidenced very clearly within every blog that you produce. Starting to use critical vocabulary to accurately describe what you are seeing is vital in the understanding of what creative or technical value you can add to your own exploratory work.
The later part of the session will be to go out with the cameras with the research fresh in your minds and to take your own versions out on location.
This session will include going out on location to do stop frame photography in a similar fashion to the studio shoot, the students will make use of any objects and props to extend the creativity of their shoots. The students will all need to produce their own stop frame photography.
Consolidation
The students will upload all of their images to their computers that were taken on location, some of these images are added to their blogs to evidence what they have done. Consolidation
It is expected that you have all now produced stop frame videos for this assignment. You have had the opportunity to work from home to add value to your websites, etc..
This session will be about looking at these sites and the amount of work that you have produced. At all times you have had this tutor support site to help and inform as to what was required at all times.
Students who still haven't produced a stop frame photography video either in the studio or on location will get an opportunity to shoot today to rectify that.
Before next week can you all review your work and see if you need any music or sound effects to add to your final movies. If you need music you will need to bring the file or a cd so you can finish your assignment easily next week.
Homework will be to finish research and blog entries about what you did on location or in the studio to ease the work load for next week. This online way of working should allow you to extend your classroom time in order to achieve a higher grade.
Week 6
Week 6
Aims of the Session
This session will be about how the 'Xbox 360 in used with its Kinect System' and how the students own animation can interact with the software to gain a further understanding of how 'Motion Capture' operates. Kinetic energy means 'movement' and describes stop frame and animation techniques.
We will be using flip video cameras to evidence the kinetic movement of the students in response to the movements they made in order to make the character move in the software.
We will be using flip video cameras to evidence the kinetic movement of the students in response to the movements they made in order to make the character move in the software.
Objectives of the Session
The objective will be to experience and evidence how the 'Kinect Motion' software allows the 'kinetic' movement of the students to directly influence and become part of the animation of the computer game.
Also the objective is to meet the criteria for the course (see chart above to translate these criteria).

Introduction
Safeguarding and registers on Celcat System / Lanyard Check. A challenge of any late students will be made and a one to one discussion about this will be made after the session so as not to interrupt the flow of the class.
Outline and Development of Learning Activities
Part 1 - Firstly the class will be held in the Photography Studio and will allow us to have adequate space in which to safely perform this session. A lot of space is required as the students will be using the motion controllers and moving around over a large area. This space is both safe and fit for purpose for such sessions.
The students have already been in the studio many times and have had a health and safety induction.
The studio and the Xbox 360 will already be set up and it has been PAT tested to ensure it is safe to use in the college.
The students have covered a wide variety of animation on this course from flip books to animating themselves and objects on location and in the photography studio before. So it is a logical progression that we now cover how they can become part of the games themselves using their own kinetic energy.
The kinetic movement of the students was in response to the movements they made in order to make the character move in the software.
The kinetic movement of the students was in response to the movements they made in order to make the character move in the software.
In the near future the applications for 'motion capture' and 'human interactive software' will have very broad applications in education, science, music, sport, medical and manufacturing sectors. And so this session has many and far reaching research possibilities and extension opportunities after this session.
The system whilst being used is also capable of taking photographs of students while they are using the xbox 360 via the Kinect, these can be used afterwards in a timeline of an edit to create an animation of the students using the software.
Also the lesson will be filmed on a flip camera so that the students can watch back and animate images from the session in an animation via Final Cut Software in the next session.
Most of the students will take an active part in the session however some may choose not to take part and watch if they are a bit shy. The games featured include action and adventure, sport, dance and keep fit.
Part 2 of the session will be in the classroom after break where we will look at the flip videos of the students and put that footage into Final Cut software and produce a short small video which can be exported and uploaded as a quicktime movie onto their own blog websites, this is to evidence the kinetic movement of the students in response to the movements they made in order to make the character move in the software.
Also you can start to research this area kinect games and its uses in the various areas such as education, science, music, sport, medical and manufacturing sectors, see how many more you can find. And as part of stretch and challenge can you do some work from home about this session and its varied possible uses, alongside the games that you have played today. If there is anytime left the extension activity will be to check over your work as we did last week, and start to label it via the labels gadget and placing criteria labels against their work in order to measure what has been done and what is missing from their work.
Unit Module

Functional / Key Skills for Life
Separate sessions with Functional Skills Tutor to support teaching and learning in all these sessions.
This takes place each week via specialist staff ,this session covers IT and functional skills in literacy and numeracy.

Assessment Strategies
The assessment of work is aided by the 'Self Tracking and Self Labelling' of any work that is produced. This is vital in understanding 'where' you are within the curriculum and taking ownership of their own learning as it is delivered, so later in this session we will be covering this in the classroom. And allows for accurate and timely adaptation or targeting of criteria that may have not been met. And it also allows confirmation to the students as to what they have achieved as well. All of this self tracking is commented on by the tutor as the students progress in a very strong formative manner, on a regular and written evidenced method which appears automatically next to their work on their blog websites.
This 'SMART' target labelling allows the students to take control of their own learning and grasp an understanding of how to gauge and measure their work accurately, and backed up by confirmation by the tutor at all times.
Also assessment will be via Q and A and one to one visits, this is then reaffirmed later by comments about their work left by myself in a written form on their blogs.
Feedback Strategies
The whole system of using blogs online allows the work of all students to be viewed by not only the tutor but also by all the students themselves. This allows transparency as to how students are achieving an thus adequate intervention time to allow improvements to happen to the students work.
All the students can leave comments on each others work which can build a team ethic of helping each other to learn (peer to peer). This evidence is written and S.M.A.R.T and also automatically dated and timed.
Consolidation and Evaluation
This takes place after every session where the class recaps and reviews what they have done, identifying key features and resources. This takes the form of written evidence in their blogs, which depending on whether we can access computers directly, if not then the evaluation and consolidation is done in written form when next able to access a computer (either in class or at home). If we are working in the photography studio then this is often not possible until we are back in a classroom (after break) and students have access to their blog websites.
To encourage 'stretch and challenge' the students can undertake homework which should happen each week as they are working on the internet, for those that haven't got the internet they can work at the college library facilities when possible. Students are asked and expected to do homework and extension activities each week either practical or blog work.

Development
All projects have to be completed by today, their is no referral system for you to add work,it will all be marked on merit as per the work that you have produced strictly within the 6 weeks of this assignment.
Spend the session making sure that you have labelled your work accurately in order to know why you have written a piece of work / supporting images and videos.
A final evaluation blog of the whole assignment will need to be written today. No work extension or referral of work will take place, the work will only be marked once and a grade allocated. As you are all working online, the work that is present at the end of the course will be the work marked.
All blog work will be labelled to show where you have produced evidence in your blog to meet certain criteria. We will go through this as a group in order for you to attain the highest grades possible.
Consolidation
The last final consolidation of this assignment is about the critique and this is evidenced in their blogs in the form of a final evaluation. The labelling system will allow students to check that they have covered all the criteria to an adequate depth. The blogs allow ongoing evaluations to be made in a natural reflective manner considering thoughts and ideas from research, adapting to change and circumstance and reflecting about what they would do to improve the process next time. What they enjoyed and struggled with are also covered within this final session.
Students also have to evidence their thoughts of each others work over the networked following system which allows commenting and feedback to be received throughout this course. Also I am able to give comments and feedback to all of the students work in order for them to improve their grades and potentially achieve higher.

Aims of the Session
Framework for learning is a session about how the new Blogger system can work alongside the videos, research and images about BBC2 idents that you are producing today.
We will be looking at a demonstration by myself about all the features of the system and how best to use them within the classroom.
Also to introduce the concept of the Tutor Support Site and the benefits of having all the information at their fingertips 24/7.
Objectives of the Session
This sessions is about the whole framework of the course that will help them to meet the aims and objective of the course in a smarter and more efficient manner.
All students will be aiming to meet the criteria of the course units (see table) As they are met and written about each one is labelled within Blogger.
1. They have a raised awareness of the Blogger system and its features.
2. They know how to upload their work to it in a variety of ways using varied media.
3. They can identify key features within the Blogger system
4. They can improve their knowledge of the Blogger features by uploading images, videos and writing posts
5. They understand how to create a Blogger account and to use the features within the design and layout features.
6. Use and add different gadgets to their own Blogger.
Outline and Development of Learning Activities
There is an Blogger powerpoint to go through with a step by step guide for what they can do. The framework used within the learning environment is very important and how to use all its features in order to encourage work production, feedback and reflective practice.
The students have not started to use the system it is social networking and very similar to Facebook but safe and secure for use in the learning environment.
A previous video from a studio shoot that they have done last week will be used as material for this session. Also we may look at typing a post, loading an image as well. The varied media will then be uploaded onto the Blogger via 'post a message', they can type in about who they have researched, link to a youtube video also about that BBC 2 IDENT.
Stretch and Challenge
All students now have the capability to produce work both at college and at home using this online system for teaching and learning

Assessment Strategies
The assessment of work is aided by the self tracking and self labelling (tags) of any work that is produced. This is vital in understanding 'where' you are within the curriculum as it is delivered. And allows for accurate and timely adaptation or targeting of criteria that may have not been met. And it also allows confirmation to the students as to what they have achieved as well. All of this self tracking is commented on as the students progress in a very strong formative manner on a regular and written evidenced way appearing automatically next to their work on their blog websites.
In this way the students can take ownership and control of the work that they produce and are fully aware of the criteria that they are required to meet 24/7.
Feedback Strategies
The whole system of using Blogger online allows the work of all students to be viewed by not only the tutor but also by all the students. This allows transparency as to how students are achieving an thus adequate intervention time to allow improvements to happen to the students work to help them to achieve higher grades.
All the students can leave Recent Comments on each others work which can build a team ethic of helping each other to learn (peer to peer). This evidence is written and S.M.A.R.T and also automatically dated and timed. In this way the students can have a critique of each others work from day one and on a rolling program of feedback from all parties.
If we are working in the photography studio then this is often not possible until we are back in a classroom.

Objectives of the Session
This sessions is about the whole framework of the course that will help them to meet the aims and objective of the course in a smarter and more efficient manner.
All students will be aiming to meet the criteria of the course units (see table) As they are met and written about each one is tagged in Edmodo or labelled within Blogger.
Outline and Development of Learning Activities
There is an Edmodo powerpoint to go through with a step by step guide for what they can do.
The varied media will then be uploaded onto the Edmodo System via 'post a message', they can type in about who they have researched, link to a youtube video also about that BBC 2 IDENT.
There is no expectation that they will do it alone it will be supported and demonstrated by me at all times as an example of how to get the best out of Edmodo.
Time permitting I will show how students can then link their main Blog websites into the Edmodo system and also how to label or tag what they are producing.

Functional / Key Skills for Life
Separate sessions with Functional Skills Tutor to support teaching and learning in addition to all these sessions takes place. (seperate sessions with a different tutor).
Resources / Websites / References
Websites to relevant television channels as mentioned on the assignment paper, plus any additional research by the students may be used in this session.
If we are working in the photography studio then this is often not possible until we are back in a classroom.

Aims of the Session
Working in teams to create designs and ideas for their groups BBC 2 idents on paper to sketch out ideas.
All team members take part in ideas from all individuals. The best ideas they will choose and move forward to be made from certain media.
Most groups will of progressed from this stage to actual construction of the number 2, difficult or specialist materials will be used in appropriate areas under full supervision of staff.
Objectives of the Session
All students will be aiming to meet the criteria of the course units (see table) As they are met and written about each one is tagged in Edmodo or labelled within Blogger.
Outline and Development of Learning Activities
The students are all making a number 2 from varied range of different media, ie, they could use wood, foam board, ice, jelly, cake, metal and link into any college area to help them construct their videos.
The expectation is that they all work as a team of 5 different disciplines within the team as explained if full on the assignment paper.
Each team has a team leader who is responsible for organising the team and the individuals to work together and pull in one direction. These values of team spirit and taking responsibility are valuable lessons to learn within college. This is the only assignment where students get to work within teams in order to produce an end outcome.

WEEK 5 : 1.2.12 BBC 2 iDENTS
Framework for learning is a session about how the new Edmodo system can work alongside the Blogger websites and the videos you are producing today.
We will be looking at a demonstration by myself about all the features of the system and how best to use them within the classroom. This will be a fairly light introduction as I know that some students are keen to finish their work for the last session next week. Also some students may wish to finish work in the photography studio.
The main Blogger work is what the students will be working in as usual but I am also keen to add Edmodo lightly today so that they can see this system so that they can be working with it over the rest of the year on a variety of projects. This group is the first level 3 group to use this across the college. It has been successfully trialled at level 2 and 4.
