Photography & Edit

All stop frame photography is done via a digital stills camera and each image then represents a single frame in the movie. To make a movie of any length will require a considerable amount of images to complete, with new movement each time a new still image is taken. 24 frames per second is the usual rate for video, although it is permissable to use a lower rate for 'effect' in your movie.

All editing will be done in iMovie which is available on all the macs. All test movies and storyboards are to be loaded onto the blogger in order for proper evidence of work produced. Whilst using the iMovie software you are required to screen grab every stage of what you do. Each different tool or technique will then have a series of screen grabs which clearly document what you have done. These are then loaded onto your blog site along with a clear written explanation to accompany them.

Some of you may find that Final Cut is installed on your computer and you have the option to use this software to edit your still images into a moving video production to music.

For all the still frame photography that you produce you will be able to use your own camera or loan one from the camera store for short periods. The photography studio will also play a large part in this assignment. The studio is block booked at the start of this course for several weeks to allow us all to get used to working in this environment. After this you will be required to independently to produce your photography. You will all be given a tour of the photography studio and advice and guidance on how to use all the kit and equipment creatively and safely.
At all times in the photography studio you must take a photograph of your set up and overall use of the lighting from the back of the studio to help explain what you did and how you did it.
